Fundraising Auctioneer
Connie Mazzochetti

Connie Mazzochetti first came to Keystone Hospice in 1999 as the sales executive for Brotherston’s, a durable medical equipment supplier, and she recalls these early days when Keystone was newly established and its financial situation was not very secure. Despite this, Connie provided the equipment that patients needed and trusted that the bills would get paid.

Over the years, she realized she wanted to have a more personal relationship with the organization in addition to managing the Brotherston account, and in 2002 went through the volunteer training program.

She recalls with delight some of the special moments she shared with patients in her role as a volunteer, providing support, companionship and respite to terminally-ill patients and their families. One occasion she particularly valued was to bring a resident at Keystone House to the shore to see the ocean one more time before she died.

Since those early years in Keystone’s history, Connie has become a familiar presence at the hospice in her job for Brotherston’s, ensuring that medical equipment and supplies needed by our patients are delivered promptly. She also decided that the best way she could help Keystone was to be active in fundraising and created a unique volunteer role.

A longtime member of the Roxborough/Manayunk Lionesses, Connie had been involved with auctions and decided to initiate what has become known as the “Make It, Bake It, Grow It, Sew It!” Auction, serving as Auctioneer and with refreshments donated by her company. The first auction, held in April 2005 raised almost $3,000. Over the past three years, these successful events have to date raised almost $30,000 for Keystone Hospice’s operating funds.

When her own aunt became ill with an incurable cancer, Connie arranged for her to come into Keystone House so she could get the loving care she knew was available. So her connection to Keystone is more than professional – it is with gratitude and respect for what Keystone offers, and a commitment to ensure it is able to continue its important mission. And because, as she says, Keystone Hospice gets into your blood.
