What Are Creative Arts Therapies?

A Caregiver's Collage

Creative arts experiences provide a means for healing Keystone Hospice staff members, who encounter loss and grief on a routine basis. This collage is an example of how Keystone House residential hospice staff memorialized Rose, a long-time resident with whom many had developed a close relationship.

As each staff member chose a collage image that reminded them of Rose, they spent time remembering the effect she had had on their lives. Collage was chosen as the art medium of choice because Rose had made many collages for staff members during her time at the hospice.

“Art is our one true global language. It knows no nation, it favors no race, acknowledges no class. It speaks to our need to reveal, heal, and transform and transcends our ordinary lives and lets us imagine what is possible.”
