Our Leadership Team
Gail Inderwies
RN, MBA, President/Executive Director
A champion for equitable and dignified healthcare, Gail Inderwies founded the nonprofit KeystoneCare in order to provide a continuum of services and make them accessible to a broad population. What began in 1995 as an in-patient hospice provider—the first in the region—has since expanded to include mobile hospice, palliative care, skilled nursing, and home health services.
In her tenure she has overseen a $10 million capital campaign to expand the hospice and launch Keystone Telecare Services, integrating passive behavioral monitoring, medication adherence technology, vital signs monitoring, and home care case management.
In 2011, Gail's visionary leadership led to the inception of the KeystoneCare Palliative Care Program, in collaboration with Chestnut Hill Hospital. This program was later expanded to encompass Albert Einstein Medical Center and Temple University Hospital. In 2019, Gail created a groundbreaking community palliative care program in partnership with local skilled nursing facilities, effectively extending the reach of palliative care services to patients within these facilities and beyond to include private home settings. In addition, Keystone sponsors a Palliative Fellowship and Family Medicine Residency Program at Chestnut Hill Hospital and Albert Einstein Medical Center, which plays a pivotal role in training the next generation of doctors in the art of delivering quality palliative care.
Gail earned her nursing degree from University of Pennsylvania and began her career as a psychiatric nurse. She served as Director of Nursing Education at the Fairmount Institute. And Senior Planner for The Health Systems Agency in Philadelphia, before obtaining her MBA in Health Administration from St. Joseph’s University and eventually founding KeystoneCare.
In 2007, Gail’s contributions to healthcare earned her the Women of Change Award from Governor Edward Rendell. The following year, she won the 2008 Lillian Sholtis Brunner Award for Innovative Practice in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
A certified hospice care and palliative care nurse, Gail has never lost sight of her mission to promote and provide dignified, equitable treatment for all patients. Gail speaks frequently about such topics as the integration of technology in home health care, the nuanced landscape of pediatric hospice, the complexities of end-of-life decision-making, and the pressing need to enhance healthcare accessibility for all members of society.
